The following was sent out to any user who owns a Rendershare on April 25th, 2025—email subject line: [CAD Request Portal] Important Message
As technology evolves, we are transitioning to more modern and efficient solutions. Consequently, older systems like network file shares need to be retired.
Moving forward, the College of Art and Design will be phasing out the Rendershare in favor of cloud storage options like OneDrive. Below is the schedule for the service's retirement:
June 1st, 2025 – Read-Only Access: On this date, the Rendershare will become read-only. You will still be able to view and download your existing files, but you will no longer be able to upload or save new data.
September 1st, 2025 – Reminder: We will send out a reminder communication regarding the upcoming removal of access to the Rendershare set for October 1st.
October 1st, 2025 – Service Inaccessible: On this date, the Rendershare file share will no longer be accessible to any users. The College of Art and Design will retain the existing data temporarily for emergency access purposes.
January 1st, 2026 – Permanent Data Deletion: All data remaining on the Rendershare will be permanently deleted and cannot be recovered.
For users actively using Rendershare, our recommended solution is to use OneDrive. If you are not familiar with OneDrive (SharePoint), please see the OneDrive Basics for Work or School.
Documentation on accessing the Rendershare can be found at https://helpdesk.cad.rit.edu/kb/articles/how-to-connect-to-network-shares.
If you have any questions or concerns about this transition, please do not hesitate to contact the CADTech Helpdesk at https://helpdesk.cad.rit.edu.
Thank you for your understanding as we work to enhance our technology infrastructure.
