BACKGROUND:
The Mac OS has a number of locations where you can add ICC Profiles for color management. However, in modern versions, certain folders have restricted access (ex: The primary system level ColorSync Folder at Library/ColoSync/Profiles). MacOS also does not automatically create a user level ColorSync folder anymore, and by default the user level library is hidden from view without a keyboard shortcut. Without creating a ColorSync folder in the user folder, there is no easy way for a user without admin privileges to add an ICC Profile.
SOLUTION:
CADTech has deployed a simple utility that will create the necessary ColorSync and Profiles folder for users. It is available through the RIT Self Service app.
PROCESS:
1. Launch RIT Self Service app.
2. In the search bar, type “Profile”
- The Create ColorSync Profiles Folder utility will show up.
- Click on Create to run the script.
3. This creates a ColorSync folder in your User folder.
4. You can now add profiles to this folder by:
Navigate to the Go Menu
Hold down the Option key and you will see “Library” show up as an option. Select Library to open the Users / (username) / library folder.
Navigate to the ColorSync / Profiles folder
Copy your ICC profiles INSIDE the Profiles folder. (You will have to do this on any lab computer you use for the first time.)
5. You may have to restart the application you were trying to use (ex: Photoshop), but now your profiles will be accessible to you.
